Book of the Month

Reading is one of my FAVORITE pass times, but these past few months have been nothing short of hectic! Usually, within any given month you will find me engrossed in 2-3 books at a time, but with balancing a new job, a graduate program and just basis adulting I've managed to only finish one book in the past few months, but let me tell you, it didn't disappoint!

The People We Keep is a must read, if you haven't done so already. It tells the story of a young girl (April), who finds herself constantly searching for her place in the world. Born to and subsequently abandoned by two self-center individuals, April never seems to feel connect or wanted by those around her. Feeling trapped and clearly unwanted by her dead-beat Father, she hits the road at the age of 16 in search of what she hopes is a better life. Along the way April encounters many new faces and builds new relationships, but they are always short lived and each time she flees a place, a little bit more of her is left behind. Fast forward to 3 years later and April finds herself in a predicament, where her vagabond lifestyle is soon called into question. This book paints a portrait of what it is like to find your place and purpose in a world that tries to say you don't deserve one. The People We Keep has you rooting for April every leg of her journey, while pushing you to reflect on your own journey of self discovery. If you haven't read it be sure to check it out, you will not be sorry!
